Frequently Asked Questions

Q:How are the big game hunted, is it on a ranch?

A:Axis deer and mouflon sheep are free range and fair chase hunts conducted on 32,000 acres from mountain elevation of 3300 feet to sea level. High power rifles are recommended.

Q:Is bowhunting allowed, if so, what is the success rate for bowhunting?

A:Bowhunting is permissible, and really 100% luck will need to be on your side! The rangers will do their best to bring you as close to the animals as possible. The success rate is 3% for non-residents, 10% success rate for residents. No hunt is guaranteed.

Q:What are the chances for a trophy ram?

A:Success rates vary according to the skill level of the individual. There is a good chance to see a trophy ram and yet lose sight of them quickly as they enter the thick brush.

Q:What size ram do you consider to be a trophy suitable for harvest?

A:¾” curl and full curl.

Q:What is considered to be a trophy axis deer?

A:High 20’s” along the main beam. The typical axis deer would be a 29” antlered buck.

Q:How many hunting days are normally required to find a trophy game?

A:Hunting days vary from 1 to 3 days. Plan your trip to include a one day orientation prior to your first day hunt. Orientation includes the process of hunting licenses and permits and a trip to the gun range to sight in your rifle. Hunt days typically run 1 to 2 days thereafter. You will not be charged for the orientation day.

Q:Is there a trophy fee in addition to the daily rate?

A:There are no additional fees or trophy fees to the daily rate of $1000 per day during our promotional period.

Q:What is the hunting season for axis deer and mouflon sheep?

A:Because Hawaii is located only 20° above the equator, we do not encounter the extreme climate changes as North American States/territories. Therefore, our hunting season is year-round for both axis deer and mouflon sheep. Generally, the best time to hunt axis deer for hard racks is from April to November.

Q:When is the breeding/rutting season for mouflon sheep?

A:Although our monitoring has found that mouflon sheep are capable of breeding year-round, the typical breeding season would be between July and August.

Q:What is the hunting season for bird?

A:September through Mid-March. Closed from April through August during egg production period.

Q:Does the coat (hair) of the rams change during the year?

A:Not necessarily. However, you may find some rams located in high cooler elevations that may have a slightly fuller coat than mouflon located on the lower levels where temperatures are a bit warmer.

Q:Is the bird hunting done on a different day from big game hunt?

A:YES. The big game hunts are typically reserved for a full day from before sunrise to sunset. Be prepared for a 12 to 14 hour day for big game hunts. We highly recommend to not schedule any other activities or meetings as this may cut into your time of hunting and travel time.

Q:Do you provide firearms if we want to avoid security checks while traveling?

A:YES. We provide use of a Ruger 77 Mark II with 308 ammunition for big game hunts; and 12 and 20 gauge over-under Baretta shotguns for bird hunting with #2; #4; #6 & #7 steel shot shells.

Q:What firearms do you allow for hunting big game?

A:Any accurate flat shooting caliber from 243 and up.

Q:What is the terrain like for hunting big game?

A:The terrain is steep, rocky and brushy. Comfortable boots with ankle protection is recommended. Some physical conditioning is advised because the hunter will usually encounter hot, humid weather and rough hiking conditions.
