About Lana‘i

---

Lana‘i is the largest privately owned island in the Hawaiian chain and was previously known as the "Pineapple Island".

Castle & Cooke Inc. owns approximately 88,600 acres, or 98%, of the Island of Lana‘i - the sixth largest of the Hawaiian Islands. The island traditionally had been a community whose main industry was the growing and harvesting of pineapple. The development plan for the Island provides a unique approach to ensure the preservation of the local culture and tradition.

Lana‘i is the perfect island for the person who wants to get away from it all. We have lonely sunny beaches, heavenly mountain trails, dusty dirt roads, and historical remnant sites.

The island lies nine miles across the channel from Lahaina, Maui. As one Lahaina resident recalls when she was a child, "Lana'i reminded me of a banana cream pie; it was always covered with a heavy cloud over its mountaintop, kind of like whip cream." Indeed, Lana‘ihale the highest mountain peak extends 3300 feet above sea level and is lined with cook pines that capture the fog drip into the island's aquifer system.
